Viral Marketing also known as Viral Advertising is a marketing technique used to build the public awareness of one’s product or company.

Companies ride on the idea that if people like a good movie, funny story etc, they will pass it on to their friends and family. The company brands their logo or a product description to go with that particular media. Result? The company gets free advertising that keeps growing without them having to do anything else. .

Viral marketing has become a popular means of advertising and marketing because they are relatively low cost. To avoid being tagged as spam mail, viral marketing counts on the eagerness of one person to pass on the product. If a person sees the name of the person they know as the sender, they won’t block it and open it as well.

The main advantage of viral marketing is that you get a lot of public awareness about your site and your company. You can generate a flow of traffic that are potential customers. With a little ingenuity and imagination, plus some incentives like prizes and discounts, you can reach out to a great number of people and get them to pass your advertisement along at a very low cost to you.

For instance If you write an ebook allow people to place an advertisement in your free ebook if, in exchange, they give away the ebook to their web visitors or e-zine subscribers.

Give permission for people to give away your free product
Just include your ad on them or require people to link directly to your web site.

Hold a contest on your web site. You could place the other web
site’s ads on the contest page in exchange for them promoting the
contest.

There are many ways to reap the benefits of Viral Marketing . Take advantage of them.

This is an eternal question. Search engine optimizers would remain glued to their computer screen to take in the first hint of any PageRank update as and when that occurs. And when it occurs, it will be an anxious wait till the dust settles, before scurrying off to rework ways to claw back in ranking in case the new PR reduces.

Why so much bother? Does PageRank really matter? The short answer is yes, PageRank does matter, but not as much as it is made out to be. Let us talk things over.

What we know

The first lesson on PageRank will be an unquestionable reference to what Google says. According to Google [http://www.google.com/technology/], “PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value.”

Elaborating, Google says 2 things. One, more the number of incoming links to a webpage, more is the ‘number of votes’ for that page. But then comes the second rider. According to Google, it also analyzes the page that sends links and attempts to figure out how ‘important’ or ‘relevant’ this page (rather its content) is vis-à-vis the page which it links to.

Broadly speaking, links between 2 travel-related webpages make much sense in the eyes of Google than that between a travel-related webpage and another concerning, say a watch manufacturing company.

A succinct yet clear explanation of PageRank Technology is provided by Google here [http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html]. The underlying idea is to provide surfers as accurate search results as possible. The ‘life of a Google query’ though lasting barely a second, is a mind-boggling go-between through several stages before an answer is delivered.

What we do not know

Howsoever revealing may Google’s explanations be, the bottom-line remains that for most of us, calculation of PR continues to be an enigma. Does any one know for sure how PR works? Ian Rogers of IPR Computing has in this essay [http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/] explained fairly well as to how PageRank is calculated by Google.

However, even if the mathematical equation to calculate PR is known, what is not known is which set of its data Google uses from its databank for finding out the PageRank of your webpage. This essentially translates to no more than second-guessing as to what the next PR would be. It would therefore be not wrong to say that most of the users (and indeed the so-called SEO experts) do not know what their PageRank would be next time. (Having said that, I must not consciously deny readers of this article to know what their supposedly Future PageRank [http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/future-pagerank/] will be.)

Why the hype?

And herein lies a superb marketing strategy. Ever wondered why Google thought it pertinent to let PageRank displayed in its toolbar? On the face of it, there is no need really, except to ‘stoke’ the fire of chasing a mirage. You see a mirage as much as you know how PR is calculated. But try as best as you would, you cannot decide your PR.

In the process Google gains. An enormous volume of writings (like this one) centers around Google. Whatever Google does is news in an instant. There is a whole lot of ‘pure’ Google-watchers out there whose job it is to only report on the giant search company. Publicity sans cost, not bad that.

The link companies

Google’s wish notwithstanding, there is no denying that PageRank mystery has given birth to thousands of link-related business. Since Google is explicit in explaining at how it looks at links, it has been easy for link-making companies to work out their preliminary business strategy. Beyond that it’s purely rat race of garnering share of link-hungry websites. All the time, Google remains unfazed, except occasionally churning it topsy-turvy to keep PR mystery alive.

What would you do?

You need not overly bother about PageRank. Do not get me wrong! PageRank is very real. What is not is your ability to alter it any sooner. There should not be any express-effort to ‘acquire’ links. Instead, maintain focus on adding and enriching your web content, for that and that only would create a permanence of interest among your viewers over a period of time.

Emphasis must be on creating value to your viewers’ time, so that there is always something new to learn, something more to know. Along the way if you pick up a good link or two every now and then, that will be more than welcome.

What, if you are in hurry?

Not everyone is destined to wait for a hike in PageRank. Then again, even a high PR may not instantly lead to bigger traffic. So pretty soon, you may ponder how long it will be to profit from your web venture. Profit may be to earn publicity (blogs for example), to make your readers giving consent to your paid newsletter, to sell your products or services (or even selling others’ products or services), or suchlike.

If indeed you want to cut short your long wait so as to profit from your web venture, Google has a ready solution. It is about targeted keyword advertising program, called Google AdWords. In sharp contrast with PageRank, Google lets AdWords users to actually control their accounts in order to attain more visibility. But that is another story for another day.

If you are like most new marketers you just dread logging into your autoresponder and seeing that you have lost list members due to them unsubscribing. Well I am here to tell you three good reasons to look forward to getting unsubscribes.

The first is that you are actually using your list. The only way that I have ever seen to not get an unsubscribe is to never send an email. If you are not going to use the list why go to the time and effort to build it. So congratulate your self when you get the unsubscribe because you are actually using your list.

The second thing is that someone is opening your email. To unsubscribe they had to at least open the email and click the unsubscribe link. The good thing is that your headline worked and got them to open your email. Now if you are using dishonest headlines, (You have won, your account status, and other headlines along those lines) this is not a good thing and you are reaping what you have sown. If you are using a solid headline that matches your email and it gets opened this is a good thing. Your headline is doing its job.

The third good reason to be glad to get unsubscribes has to do with personality. Now here is a shocker (said with sarcasm dripping from the keyboard) Not everyone is going to like you or your writing style. Those that don’t will unsubscribe. The good thing though is that if they don’t care for your style you will never build a relationship with them. If you can’t build a relationship with them they will most likely never buy from you. So each unsubscribe will make your list more targeted to people who actually like your style and are more likely to respond favorably to your offers that meet their needs.

So now you have three good reasons to no longer dread seeing that people have decided to unsubscribe from your list. Rejoice in the fact that you are actually making your list stronger and more profitable for you in the longer run.

When it comes to obtaining merchandise for the best possible price you can’t beat the prices at your favorite auction. Exactly the reason the world wide web has supplied us with an abundance of auction sites with Ebay being the biggest of them all. These sites offer goods and services at prices no other marketing arena can afford.

They also afford individuals as well as small business owners the opportunity to pick up some extra income. Stay at home Moms, retirees, disabled workers and small time entrepreneurs are making small fortunes from sites like Ebay. And doing so with no website, website skills and No Investment capital to start their businesses.

Actually, a potential Ebay seller only needs a few simple things to put an item up for sale. If you’re thinking about putting an item or items up for sale on Ebay or any other auction site here are several things you’ll want to consider before you do.

1. The Going Rate or Value on the Market.

Like it or not, you’re going to have to do a little research. This will help you to arrive at a perceived value for whatever it is you’re selling. It’s cost will hopefully create a bargain for the buyer, yet still be enough to provide the seller (You) with a profit. This will be pretty much a no-brainer if you’re cleaning out the attic or garage. These types of merchandise can really create a bargain for the buyer. You collect found money and the buyer gets to afford something that they would not be willing to pay full price as new.

Depending on the item, you still may want to check out other sites having that particular item to see what kind of prices are being asked. Use all information regarding pricing wisely. Remain flexible and remember, the idea is to make a sale, not to give it away. You’ll have to find a happy medium between buyer and seller.

2. A Detailed Item Description..

Your item’s description needs to be as truthful as possible. Describe it as it actually is. Don’t try and make it into something it is not. Any flaws or imperfections should be noted. If it is in or near Mint Condition then note it as well.

3. The Photograph.

We’re not all professional photographers so you’ll have to take a few pictures before you get one suitable to depict your item in the manner you need for a sale. If you can get it clear enough and at an angle that the potential buyer can see, described in the item’s description, you stand a very good chance of making the sale.

4. The Seller’s Requirements.

It is an essential thing for the seller to state his or her payment requirements. It’s best for the sellers to include everything especially the additional charges that will apply like shipping fees.

You’ll not want to leave anything to chance. Spell out everything. How you want to receive payment, how much are the shipping costs, will the seller or buyer pay them, is a deposit required, when will item be shipped and so forth. I’m sure you get the idea. Surprises after the sale are unsettling and lack professionalism.

5. Customer Service.

Customer Service is not rocket science. If you just treat people the same way you’d want to be treated, you can’t go wrong. Answer all emails or phone calls, be helpful and courteous, and as they say, a happy buyer makes a happy seller.

We all know that in the world of domain names today, the presence of the DNS domain name system is very much significant. It is interesting to know that the acronym DNS actually stands for Domain Name System/Service/Server. However, I will be using the term DNS domain name system here to provide you with a clear knowledge about the meaning of this particular thing.

The DNS domain name system is actually a powerful tool that contributes a great part in the domain name process. It is often described as an internet service that translates or transforms the domain names into an IP or Internet Protocol address.

Aside from knowing such basic function of the DNS domain name system, it is also interesting to learn that a basic possession of the DNS domain name system is caching. This property takes place in situations when a server welcomes information about a mapping, it caches that information. Therefore, with such function, a later question for similar mapping can use the cached output, and will not result to additional questions to other servers. And generally, the DNS domain name system applies the caching to optimize the cost of the search. But how does the DNS domain name system caching works?

In terms of caching, it is very nice to know that every server has a cache for currently applied names along with records of where the mapping data for a particular name was taken. So when a particular client is asking the server to determine a certain domain name, the DNS domain name system then does check if it has the power for a domain name, and if it does, the system doesn’t need to cache the information. However, if it has no authority for a domain name, the DNS domain name system then checks its cache whether the domain name has been resolved currently, and if yes, the DNS domain name system reports the caching data to its clients.

There are some instances that the DNS domain name system cache can be examined when the system cached the data once, but didn’t adjust it. Due to the reason that the information about a certain domain name can be changed, the server may have inaccurate data in its caching table. There is a certain value known as the Time to Live or known as TTL which is applied when to age the information. So whenever an authority responds to a request for a domain name, it then involves a Time to Live value in the answer which indicates how long it assures the binding to linger.

Lately I’ve been hearing a lot of rumblings around the internet marketing community that say ezine advertising is dead and gone.

I have to tell you that ezine advertising is alive and well — and still one of the most effective and powerful forms of internet marketing available.

There are several reasons this is true but I’ll simply concentrate on three main points.

Today’s ezines and newsletters are permission-based which means subscribers want to receive these messages in their emailbox. Responsible publishers are proactive about giving subscribers total control over their subscription and working closely with their mailing service to ensure as close to 100 percent deliverability as possible. Ezines deliver because they have to do so or shut down.

The experts in internet marketing and search engine optimization offer wide ranging and diverse opinions about what the best marketing technique may be, but they all agree on one point — content is king on the internet. Content is attractive to search engines and visitors alike. It is content that makes a site sticky and successful. And content is one area where ezines and newsletters reign supreme. In today’s permission-driven environment they need to deliver quality information or they’ll quickly be out of business. Imagine your ad placed in a prominent position beside high-quality information that your target audience wants. That is what ezine advertising can deliver.

If content is king then links are the lifeblood of the internet. Without links surfers could not navigate around the internet and without links search engines will not locate web sites and pages. Oneoften overlooked aspect of ezines and newsletters is the powerful text link benefits offered by ezine advertising. While most people are attracted by the immediate return of their message appearing before X number of subscribers, they do not realize that their ezine ad could work for them weeks, months and years after it was read via email. Almost all ezines and newsletters are archived on the web and because of the content they provide often those archives are crawled regularly and ranked high by search engines — and provide you with valuable back links to help increase your search engine standing.

You can dismiss ezine advertising as dead and gone and concentrate on other forms of internet marketing. Yes, you can dismiss ezine advertising, and you can miss out on immediate results from a targeted audience and you can miss out on valuable back links working for you long into the future.

A business plan is a management tool. Do you need a business plan? Yes if you:

You Need To Decide Whether To Start A Business.

This plan will help you improve your chances for success and avoid making serious mistakes. You may be the only one who reads this plan, although you should have input from a number of other people with business experience. You need to ask yourself the following questions and incorporate the answers in your business plan:

• What does it take to succeed in this type of company?

• Do you have the skills and background necessary?

• Can you afford to take the risk? What effect would the business’ failure have on you?

• What is the growth potential for the business? Can it meet your financial expectations and requirements?

• Is there a large enough market for your products/services?

• Will you enjoy owning and managing the business?

A business plan is an important ingredient to the success of a start-up business.

You Want to Jump Start Your Business

Whether you’re an entrepreneur doing business on the Internet, a stay-at-home Mom with an arts and crafts company, or a writer trying to break into publishing, a business plan acts as a guide to success. Developing your business plan helps determine your objectives and focuses you on the strategies and action plans necessary to accomplish those objectives.

If you’re looking to boost your business it’s time to answer a few questions in your business plan.

•What are your skill levels and talents?

•What are goals for each month’s sales?

•What are your resources, time available, advertising and promotional budget, website?

•Do you have the necessary equipment? If you don’t, how will you obtain the equipment?

•What barriers do you face?

You Want To Better Organize Your Company or Improve Its Operations.

This is a time and task oriented plan for use internally. It suggests actions that need to be taken and assigns responsibility. Questions that need to be answered:

•How does our company compare to leaders in its industry?

•What are our management weaknesses? How can we make improvements?

•How can we increase sales, serve the customer better, improve manufacturing efficiency, increase the gross margin?

•Do we have the necessary resources to make the above improvements? If not how will we obtain the resources? Do we need a bank loan or line of credit?

You Are Seeking A Bank Loan.

This plan is used to inspire confidence in your banker and convince her/him that your business is a good credit risk. It is written very logically, with an emphasis on the financial projections and presentation of historical financial results. Bankers who make bad loans get fired, so they like to err on the side of caution. A banker is looking for safety and a demonstration that the company can generate sufficient cash flow to pay the interest and the principal. Bankers are not looking for a huge return on their money. They don’t want to take part in the management of your company or sit on the board of directors. Your business plan will need answers to these questions:

• Will the company’s cash flow be stable enough to make the payments on the loan?

• Are the long term prospects of the business favorable?

• Does the company have a reasonably good track record?

You Need An Investor/Partner.

The plan must demonstrate considerable upside potential for the business. The banker was content to get his money back plus, say 10% interest. The investor may want a return of 30% to 50% or more. This plan must be written in an interesting manner and keep the reader’s attention. Your business plan is competing with all the other plans submitted to the investor. Make sure you address the following questions:

• Can the company grow rapidly?

• Are the margins attractive?

• Have you succeeded in other business ventures?

• Is this a market that is emerging, with a large and bright future?

• How much of the company are you willing to give up, both in equity and management control?

You Want To Sell Your Business

You must prove to a potential buyer that your company is worth paying a premium for. Sometimes this can be called a marketing presentation, offering memorandum, or valuation. It is not strictly a valuation, as you are trying to establish your sales price for the business, not determine a value. Usually a valuation is completed by an objective third party. You’re likely to be asked:

• Is there untapped potential for the business that a new owner could take advantage of?

• If the new owner had more capital, could the business grow more rapidly?

• Are there new markets that could be entered?

• Could costs be reduced and therefore profits increased?

Every business should have a business plan. It’s the road map to success. But a well thought out business plan is critical if your company is seeking financing.

Want to have your own TV show? Do you have the need to spread your wisdom to each and every member of the Internet-connected community? Do you just want to stay in touch with friends and family? Now you can. Vlogging, a social, personal/amateur/professional broadcasting opportunity is the latest in online interactive technology with a community. Have a good idea? Put it on the web, talk about yourself and join the revolution.

To get started you must have an idea or, a spark of an idea or, a little bit of curiosity. It doesn’t take much. Produce a few minutes of video by using a digital camera or a still camera with ‘movie’ feature, edit it or don’t and post it online and see what happens is more the rule of thumb. Sure, it can be grandiose with corporate advertising, field reporters, proper credits and a script. Your vlog can also be ‘home-video’ style entertainment of you sitting in your bedroom eating a bowl of cereal. The numbers don’t lie- people want to see the intimate details of other people’s lives. As we get farther and further removed in our own worlds with little reason to leave the laptop, people are coming forward with their lives published and broadcasted for all the world to see.

Here are some suggested resources for videophiles who want to start vlogging:

For tools, training and tutorials: http://Freevlog.org and Node101 are excellent examples. Freevlog/ Blogger is the leading weblog tool on the Internet. Anyone can view your site, whether they are registered or not (unlike MySpace). You are able to completely design your own blog. There are free tutorials and immense amounts of help to assist you in getting started. Freevlog wants you to join the community of vloggers, making it easier for you to get your skills together on the technical side. Recommended: how to hack your own blog and a basic html guide.

Blip.tv for free hosting, support, advertising options and promotion. This site features hundreds of channels to give you an example of what is out there in the Vlogosphere.

WordPress – WordPress is a free blog software that has more features than Blogger. It has the ability to label your postings using categories, making it easier for viewers to search around your site. WordPress has the advantage over Blogger if you are more technically oriented. If you know xthml/css/php, the software can be customized and encourages creativity. WordPress requires a mySQL database space on a server. Adding links is simpler than on Blogger and published faster.

Feedburner – provides media distribution and gets your media out there in the Vlogosphere to audiences for blogs and RSS feeds. The services Feedburner provides helps bloggers, vloggers and podcasters promote, deliver and profit from the content you upload onto the web.

FireAnt is an application website you can use to list your vlog, attract viewers and subscribe to channels. It unifies content for easy viewing, transforming all formats (Quicktime, Windows Media, Real, Flash, MP3, and more) for hassle-free video watching on your computer.

A coupon is a voucher or a slip enabling the customer to avail a discount while purchasing a particular product. Traditionally businesses used to print and distribute coupons in volumes through newspapers and magazines. Proliferation of internet has changed all this. Now one can locate and print the desired internet coupon over the internet by visiting websites and avail the discount when the shopping is done. Manufacturers and retailers offer variety of coupons to promote their sales during lean seasons and some times to clear their old stocks.

There are basically four types of Internet coupons available online. Printable Internet coupons as name suggests can be sited online, printed at home, and exchanged at the shops for a discount. The other types are product code coupon and activated line coupons which can be only redeemed online. Product code coupons involve entering a code of alphanumeric characters during the checkout which enables them to avail certain amount of discount.

The last variety is click coupons which are transferred online to your shopping card, which avails the discount when you do shopping. User selects the coupons online and enters the grocery card number; the internet coupon discounts are applied electronically to his accounts. The next time when he goes to grocery shopping the internet coupons are automatically applied and the discount is granted.

Internet coupons are the most convenient way of getting discounts as they are easily accessible at all places. Right from newspapers to word of mouth, one can frequently hear about the names of websites who offer internet coupons and promotional codes. There are innumerable benefits to the consumer in using internet coupons. Internet coupons facilitate people as it can be sited online at any convenient hour. They are very user friendly; one can find and use them with little efforts. Printable coupons allow the people to print them at their home and use when they go for shopping.

The internet coupons are environmentally friendlier than the conventional coupons. Unlike traditional coupons, customers only print the required coupons, rather than trashing the pages of unwanted traditional printed coupons and advertisements.

As with any new technology, internet coupons are prone to some adverse effects. We often hear news about coupon scams, coupon frauds, illegal redemptions, auctioning, and so on. These illegal activates causes losses of thousands of dollars every year to manufacturers and retailers. Federal agencies and consumer organizations take actions time and again to contain such activities. Despite of all these drawbacks, internet coupons are going to stay for long helping people to save their hard earned money.

After consulting with many people I’ve never seen so much confusion regarding how bids are determined by Google.
Some people believe that you pay what your Max Bid is and others believe that you pay 1 penny more than the
person below pays.

Neither of those are actually true. It’s rather a combination of those. This confusion has lead many to pay way to much for there bid position because they don’t see the necessity in monitoring bids.

Let me give you an example:

Bidder 1: Max Bid is .55 but pays .51 per click.
Bidder 2: Max Bid is .50 but pays .21 per click.
Bidder 3: Max Bid is .20 but pays .06 per click.
Bidder 4: Max Bid is .05 but pays .02 per click.
Bidder 5: Max Bid is .01 and pays .01 per click.

Hopefully you are seeing a pattern here. The truth is that you actually pay only 1 penny more than the person below you’s Maximum Bid.

But then why is it important to monitor bids you might ask if Google makes you only pay 1 cent more than the Max Bid of the person below you?

In the senario above the best value position is being in #2 because #2 is paying 30 cents less per click than bidder #1. The bid gap difference between position #2 and #3 is only 15 cents.

So you can have nearly as many clicks as position #1 for over half the cost. If you have 1,000 clicks position #1 is paying $510 and position #2 is paying only $210. You are saving over half which means increased profit margins for your company.

But here a bidder can use a dirty trick to raise how much you are paying per bid with a little known technique which I call Bumping!

Let’s say you are Bidder 2 and you get used to paying 21 cents per click.

If Bidder 3 is savvy (and more and more bidders are) he could Bump up what you are paying.

He/She can increase their Max Bid to 49 cents, while still only paying 6 cents per click. All of the sudden you are paying over double per click than what you were paying before.

With Google being more and more competitive this is happening more frequently and is used to cause you to over pay for your clicks, put you out of business or drop your position, so that they can take over position #2 for a lower cost than what you are paying.

To avoid having this happen to you, you really need to monitor all of your bids to make sure that no one is “BUMPING” you. However, since everyone is always changing their bid prices over the many keywords you have, it is nearly impossible to keep up with monitoring this without a specific software…
